when you make OCs, and later find out they look kinda like characters from an existing series

When you write/think their stories and  later find out they are very similar like characters from an existing series.

When your OCs have been established for years but characters from recent popular shows look very similar to them

yes…

It’s discouraging, yes, but still, please don’t feel like you need to scrap your ideas and OCs.

Because, uh… I forget who said it, and the exact quite, but it was something like… “you have your own unique vision and way of telling the story that only you can tell.”

(… I think it was Neil Gaiman, but I could be wrong.)

OOC : Oh god this has happened to me so many times, I do use inspirations which I happily reference, but I think the best example of this happening to me was with Cherry Bomb.

I adore geisha so much, my favorite book of all time is an autobiography called “Geisha : A Life” (who Cherry Bomb’s last name is a reference to). I spent almost all of my college education learning as much as I could about Japanese art & culture, even going as far as attempting to learn japanese (and failing horribly). After seeing some tumblr posts about maple moths, I combined the two into Cherry Bomb.

Sadly, soon after making her I discovered an AMAZING, mind-blowing artist by the name of White-Mantis who had a mantis geisha character with a very similar appearance. Of course the second I found out, while blown away by this artists’ style, I was incredibly crushed and discouraged to ever draw Cherry again (which is why she hasn’t appeared on the blog for a while). While it was completely innocent and not done on purpose, I couldn’t and still can’t bring myself to draw her after finding White-Mantis.

So I feel dis post. So many feels ;3;

Also the last gif is pretty much like Headshot and Knightmare x,D
