OOC : Acerbus didn’t think of it as a way to show off persay. In his mind, he did want a family as that was pretty much the stable of family life in Warfang; Become a highly respected figure in society, get a mate, and have a family to pass down your noble name. Pretty similar to Kurosians, only they were more military/honor based.
Acerbus wanted a family but not that he would admit it; he’s not really a family man exactly. He’s very proud of Volteer and in his eyes, Volteer can do no wrong, but having and raising kids of his own would be difficult. He has zero patience and gets frustrated easily when things don’t go his way or people don’t think the way he does, and with children you need a bottomless pit of patience to raise. Acerbus could be loving, but he’d be a pretty terrible daddy.
He was incredibly jealous of Infernacus for multiple reasons. To Acerbus, Infernacus was given everything Acerbus had always wanted out of life; good looks, seemingly god-given talents in his abilities, the female Acerbus desired, and had a family. Acerbus did find a female that he did genuinely love despite her frail body, and he had hope every single time his eggs were laid (if they were laid). Time and time again, when none of his children hatched and his wife grew weaker and weaker with each clutch, Acerbus grew more bitter until he lost Leona. Which, made him the dickfart we all know in FD 😀 granted, the events with Yahvii actually made him more paranoid and violent (why he kept attacking Ignitus, he was desperate and at his wits end).
Acerbus just didn’t show it, so many assumed the worst from him that he never cared for her. He’s just very stand-offish, he doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve and he kept private business his own in public. He was formal with Leona in public, but he did actually love her and he loved his eggs. He even had a glimmer of hope for Feuriah to not be a Kuros, but he didn’t speak up when her egg appeared in fear of it being a Kuros (and in turn, he’d be revealed to having laid with one and in that time, the consequences would be detrimental). Acerbus’ status was too important to just risk that, so he stayed quiet and hoped that maybe, just maybe, his egg would actually be another purple dragon and the hope for Warfang. He flip flops a lot being hopeful and pessimistic, though.
Acer is a complicated guy but it’s easy to assume the worst from him given his personality and actions; Lost Queen sees him being very awful and wouldn’t believe at all that he could even feel love. Acerbus makes a ton of mistakes so he’s not really an brooding guy with a good heart; he thinks he is, but he does some bad things that doesn’t make him innocent. Somewhat good intentions, at least 🙂
