How do Hybrid Species come about, and how well known are they? And what defines what can or cannot cross? Because early in this blog’s history, Feur acted like Havok happening was a great mystery or impossibility, but now there are Kuros hybrid races like the Kirin. So is this something that changed, or is there more to it?

Oh there’s more to it 🙂 With Havok, he was the first human/kuros hybrid in Kurosian History. This is because humans weren’t allowed to breed with Kuros. Humans were seen as parasites, pests that leeched the Kuros for their dark magic and knowledge. The humans that were able to stay and study among the Kuros were often distrusted and weren’t given much status. They were thought so little of, that the Kuros didn’t even think humans could successfully breed with a dragon.

In Kurosian culture, there are species who’s alliance hinges on if they can successful produce offspring with the dragons. The most solidified alliance was that with the Umbracorns, so the Kirins were the most populated hybrids as the Kuros and Umbracorns produced very strong offspring consistantly.

Not every species allying themselves could try for breeding contracts, though. It depends on the species, wether the Kuros considers them worthy enough of such status. Species like the naga could never get a breeding contract as they were seen as slaves, and breeding with un-allied, unqualified species was against the law. However, species that prove themselves a great asset to the Kuros are the ones that can gain breeding rights as well as other status enriching benefits.

Those that could breed with the Kuros still ran the risk of not producing healthy offspring. The Umbracorns had the highest success rates, while other species had issues with stillborns, or babies that didn’t live long due to complications. This definitely hurt that species’ status in Kurosian culture, and this varies greatly from species to species.

Pretty much, hybrids are living proof of healthy alliances. Feuriah thought so little of humans when she was with Kaos at first that the idea of her baring his children wasn’t even possible in her mind.
