Bio:
Beyond their parents’ mating contract, Sligean’s beginnings are largely a mystery, which is just as they prefer it to be. What is known is that Sligean was part of their clan’s hunting party, an elite group of warriors who were tasked with not only providing enough for their entire clan (and then some) to eat, but also with raids.
The Berit’uch Ibarntang Clan were a deeply feared clan among those who were not allied with the Kuros, as some one of the few clans large enough in number and with the muscle and intelligence to plan frequent takedowns of hunting operations encroaching on Kuros territory. Before the Fall, the Berit’uch’s hunting party were responsible for at least thirty different Chroma fishing ships being sunk, and hundreds of deaths. Sligean was known to spearhead many of these attacks, and earned themselves plenty of hatred from those who disturbed Kurosia’s aquatic territories.
This would change, however, as more and more the Kuros villages and settlements began to become more of a target, and the people began to seek out the safety within the Veil. Sligean made the difficult decision to dedicate themselves to the land, attending college and undergoing the rigorous training required of soldiers and guards. Due to their reputation it was rumored that they would challenge either the King or Queen, but Sligean never participated in these fights. Instead they participated in only two mating contracts, which resulted in nearly a dozen children being born. After they were well grown, Sligean dedicated themselves with even more passion and fervor to the task of protecting the people of Kurosia.
It was this deep sense of duty and kinship that caught the eye of the newly appointed Queen, Feuriah. They had met and trained together briefly during college, though with Sligean having been much older and attending classes earlier, they graduated early. When reunited, Sligean offered their services to the Queen, who readily accepted and made them one of her guards.
In the week that followed, however, Kurosia was rocked to its core by the arrival of a creature unlike anything that had ever been seen. Overnight Kurogh deemed this one the most powerful out of all their allies, a god among mortals, and their key to overthrowing the threat of the Chroma and their gods once and for all. As soon as this was declared to the people, Feuriah came to Sligean, filled with suspicion and determination. In the coming days the two and their closest and most trusted allies conversed in secret, and Feuriah made her own announcement: Sligean was to be the Captain of her Guard, and the Guardian of the King and Queen’s egg chamber.
Kurogh was furious, and threatened to strip Sligean of all their titles if they did not refuse the declaration. Sligean, who had trained not only with two of Feuriah’s mentors, but Feuriah herself who had bested him in battle, told the king that he could try to force it if he wished. But then Sligean would have to challenge him for his throne, and Kurogh had never fought an Ibarntang like them.
The King bit his tongue after that.
For a time, Sligean felt they were exactly where they needed to be. That their purpose in life was fulfilling, and they would be able to protect their Queen’s children. All of them.
During the Fall, Sligean was found half buried in the corpses of the army that turned against the Kuros and slaughtered their people. It was only when they were on the verge of succumbing to their wounds that Kurogh found them, and finally found the courage to kill them.
But only after Sligean had spat directly into his eye.
Trivia:
- Sligean’s sex at hatching is unknown, and only their parents know of it. They do not address them by either pronoun, however, and will not divulge this information to others.
- Despite being agender, Sligean has had many children with two Kuros via ‘Soul Bonds.’ This is a type of magic that enables same gendered Kuros to create an egg via a very close emotional bond/desire to procreate, in which either parent is not the carrier, but instead a donor. The eggs simply appear within the appropriate months it takes for the eggs to form ‘naturally.’
- It’s been theorized by scholars and Seuth that this magic is actually an interdimensional trade-off of sorts. In universes where the eggs were created the ‘natural’ way, a copy is made and transported to the universe where the soul bond occurs.
- Sligean was very close to Feuriah, Voteil, and Asiirha. They often liked to tease and fluster Feuriah and Asiirha by insisting that the two would have been better off with each other, leaving Voteil confused and amused at the same time.
- Sligean was a very protective and loving parent to all their children, loving them each equally in turn. It is unknown how many of their children died during The Fall or how, but one or two of their children were guards in
Kurosin’Laidirlon and were among the first two die.
