ACTUALLY, she’s the reason he hates their family so much 8,D both her and Infernacus mostly! He doesn’t hate fire dragons or the element at all, he respected them as they had type advantage over him (therefor, if he bested one in combat, he’d boast about it for yeeeeeeeeeeears).
Acerbus had a crush on Nydia since they met in school. Acer used to be a very big headed, scrawny dragon that was broody and aggressive, yet shy. Nydia had been his friend despite this, as she saw a passionate soul. She brought out a kindness in Acerbus that he appreciated and loved her for. Nydia was starting to show feelings for him too; until a new student strutted in ;D Infernacus’ family line is highly respected, charming, and he was very handsome. Nydia fell for him hard, and Infernacus genuinely fell for her too, but Nydia didn’t deny her feelings for Acerbus; unfortunately, leading him on for years. Eventually Acerbus grew angry with her about this, and Nydia, being just as easy to anger and stubborn, ended up crushing his heart in a cruel exchange.
Of course, Nydia regrets this later in life and attempts to apologize to him when both he and Infernacus become Guardians, but he’s never let go of the hatred and now associates it with the Firethroat bloodline.Though he isn’t as harsh with Arsene, mostly because she could kick his butt with his own tail if he even sneered at her too much x,D
