Can you tell us more about the magic that allows dragons of the same sex to have eggs?

skylanderwishes-archived:

MOD: A few couples of dragons in my stories have been same-sex for longer than I’ve had this blog, for those out of the loop about this, and I’ll explain where that was inspired from and how it’s changed, for me, over the years.

Back whenever TLoS first came out, an artist by the name of Razzek did a couple of same-sex ships, including one of my old-time favs CynderXElora. In her story the two eventually have egg(s) (its been years and I can’t remember if it was multiple), which I thought was really cool and cute. She also explained a theory about how the classic dragons from Spyro the Dragon were all male-coded with male voices, and the question of ‘where did all the eggs come from in Year of the Dragon???’ In Razzek’s writing, the dragons from the classic PS1 games did not have genitalia, and thus reproduced via magic. Neither parents actually carried the egg, they would just all appear at around the same time during a breeding season, and magically would know when the safest time was to hatch.

It’s still essentially the same basic concept for my same-sex couples. Mostly it’s just magic mumbo-jumbo that’s aided with prayers to the respective dragons’ gods, blessings from religious figures, and a lot of hope and faith and love for one another. So far Brissa is my only canonical magically conceived egg with a Wind and a Water lesbian couple as her parents. Actually scratch that, Brissa’s last son is actually one of these, too.

So kind of spoilers not so spoilers if you read their bios, but Asiirha and Brissa have a parent-studen relationship that evolves when Brissa is an adult, well after the fall of the Dragon Temple. Asiirha is visited by Brissa in dreams, the latter of whom has learned some spells that allow her to ‘dream visit’ others. It’s not necessarily creating dreams like the Dream Weavers do, as she’s literally left up to the subconscious whim of whoever she visits. (She’s done this to Ignitus, Vulcan, her sister, and even Malefor.) It’s nearly gotten her killed, but Asiirha’s dreams are the only ones that Asiirha himself can control when he becomes aware that the visiting Brissa is actually her. In these dreams the two fight back and forth for some time, as Brissa believes Asiirha is indirectly to blame for what happened to her. Eventually they reconcile and their feelings become different for one another when they begin to know each other in their adult lives. No ‘I love yous’ are exchanged but they’re both aware that if the circumstances had been different, they could have made a great couple. It’s probably the whim of the universe (or a really mischievous wish granting cosmic being) that an egg materializes.

Neither Asiirha nor Brissa know where it materializes, but they can sense it and see it in their dream visits. Eventually the discover it’s materialized near the home of adult Cynder and Spyro, who believe the egg is their magically conceived egg. They both agree not to step in, as they both believe the pair are capable of raising the egg, and the dream visits end after that.

Essentially it just boils down to how strongly the pair feel for one another, and how close they are as a couple. Not all of the magically conceived eggs end up doing amazing things, but quite a few of them do end up achieving small miracles; Brissa founded an organization that acted as guides to the impaired (because she did the same for her blind sister), Brissa and Asiirha’s son Calden becomes the first Kuros Guardian in Chroma society, and others leave small changes in history that are generally pretty good. Some of them end up being not so good if the parents are too desperate, but that basically sums it up.

Weird, I am conflicted. My little group is developing a Skylanders fan comic on our own and we want to post the art but we want to wait till we’re 18 before we post it (2-3 years). I don’t know if I’ll still be interested or motivated to make or continue the comic when that time comes. What should I do? (Thank you for inspiring us with your Skylanders art so we could at least start our own)

Oh? Why would you have to wait to post it? I mean, unless it’s like NSFW which… yeah no, don’t post that 8,D nor should underage artists actively participate in NSFW content but I won’t go on a long rant about that here.

I won’t just assume it’s NSFW to answer the question! If your interest changes; it changes. Never force yourself to work on something you don’t feel like working on unless it’s a commission or for a job. That’s a main reason why I ended FD; i just wasn’t interested in it anymore, and I had moved onto other things. That’s totally normal and is nothing to feel bad about. If anything, if you still like the original idea, by then it would have evolved and possibly changed for the better! I’ve been developing the Kuros for like, 3-4 years (at least more seriously, technically the Kuros were created like, almost a decade ago when I first started making FD).

Don’t feel like you’re stuck with an idea, think on it and let it grow. Make AUs, challenge the story to see what it could evolve into. So by the time you CAN post it, it’ll be years better than it was before. Even if it means redrawing it, redoing stuff, it’s okay to do that. It’s okay to draw up a thing, then years later scrap it and do it better. I do that with WL ALL the time 8,D

Thank you so very much hon, I really do hope that helps! Good luck with your comic!

So what were purple dragons in your lore? Dragons like Spyro, Malefor, and the Lost Queen? Prophecied hero’s sent to deliver the world of imbalance, or simply a byproduct of unstable excess of magic? If Lost Queen is the Kuros equivalent while Spyro and Malefor are the Chroma equivalent, is there a Dunewyrm purple dragon? Or one for the Light Dragons?

skylanderwishes-archived:

TBH this question kind of stumps me because back in the day I was very unorganized and didn’t keep shit written down about lore regarding purples. I just usually went with whatever the game told me. But looking at it now, I think it goes more along the lines of this.

For the Chroma, they are a society that relies heavily on the presence of their gods being actively involved in their lives. Not on a daily basis, but sort of like the Kuros, they feel the presence of their gods in temples, when they pray to them, during certain times of the year, etc. This is mostly legend within their society now, but Purple Chroma are a rarity because purple represents god-like magic. The Purple are basically demi-gods given flesh sent down by the gods in order to do some big thing for the mortal people that the Chroma gods were stewards over. They had complete and total mastery over the elemental magics that the Chroma gods granted them, but they are to be used only in the way the gods want them to in the moment. For example, Spyro has the power over Fire, Electricity, Ice and Earth, with some of the sub-elements mixed in throughout various stages of his life. This changes due to the need or will of the gods, and in Malefor’s over-arcing story he is aware of this at some point. That’s why he got corrupted; he became aware, just like Spyro would if I ever did a TLoS story. Only in the case of Spyro, it does break his mind a little (with the help of Laufeia’s poison) but he doesn’t turn completely evil like Malefor.

The long and short of the purpose of the Purple Chroma, though, is that they’re demi-gods sent by the gods to unfuck something that a corrupt Purple did, or even a corrupt Chroma god did.

And as for the Dunewyrms, the Dunewyrms don’t have any kind of purple legends OR purple Dunewyrms. That’s about all I can say about that.

Does Gaea ever have any children who are worth mentioning? What becomes of them?

skylanderwishes-archived:

She has a BUNCH of kids actually! Semi-spoiler alert, Gaea ends up becoming mates with Melchior. If you read between the lines about his bio and do some searching in this blog I’m pretty sure I talk about it somewhere. And there’s also this.

But Gaea ends up having at least five kids. These two are her first born, Kreekin Melchi’vok and Brooke Gae’vel.

Kreek/Crook are 50% Kuros+25% Dunewyrm+25% Chroma. Kreek is a Fire Elemental with a lot of Brokt blood inherited from Gaea’s sire, Astraeus, and he eventually becomes the Patriarch of the Shimmering Isles. Crook has a lot of his grandma Pania’s looks, but no one’s quite sure where the greens came from….strange.

The other three she has with Mel end up taking MUCH more heavily after their dad, with one looking like she’s pure Kuros, and they both have about three-five more kids with their partners. (Gaea and Mel are polyamorous!)

Melefor chasing Drobot and Spyro with the same enthusiasm of a cougar

Before you say anything: Malefor’s tale … I wanted to do steampunk Malefor at the beginning but then I realised that I’m not ready to do it yet   , so I did Tlos Malefor instead but the tail remaned like that.

This was my first attempt to draw Drobot and Spyro skylanderverse.
Also Drobot is my favourite!

New images of Cynder in the upcoming Season of Skylanders Academy!

Think Spyro is the only purple-skinned, wisecracking, devil-may-care
dragon in the Skylands? Well, actually he is. But there’s also Cynder,
an ambitious, violet-scaled dragon who arrived at the Academy with a
mysterious past that she refuses to talk about. Maybe it has something
to do with how preternaturally talented she is in the dark arts, with
awesome—and sinister—powers like her spectral lightning and shadow dash.
Or how she’s always taking those weekend trips down to the Underworld.
Until the Skylanders can get to the bottom of what’s really driving
Cynder, she’s content to be the brooding ying to Spyro’s carefree yang,
adding a much-needed edge to the Skylanders’ fight for good.
