Lost Queen : Kurosia had many strange native species, but as for rare…

The Uka (top) dwelled mostly in caves and dark shadows, which of course, was aplenty on our beautifully evil mountain. However, they had a tendency to prey upon us. Their tails were able to hypnotize us, therefor we hunted them to near extinction. They still dwell in the areas around our city, though rare enough that I’ve never seen one myself.

Plant wise, the Praying Venus plants were only kept in the castle. There were a few on the mountain but, they were of course rare. We kept them in our gardens to eat any varmints from getting to our plants. Or, we’d offer them as gifts to other villains that pledge themselves. I actually had a few myself, nippy creatures they were. They too used to prey on us, but after one of our Queens killed theirs, they happily offered their services ( moreso to save their own lives but, I digress ).

Lost Queen, I hear that Havok wears a set of Kurosian armour, but what would it have looked like on a actual Kurosian? Your son is bipedal, and is fairly humanoid in his physical build, so I’m kinda curious as to how it would look on an full Kurosian dragon, as well as the standard infantry (or legionaire of whatever you call the average soldier). ME IS INTERESTED. <3

Lost Queen : Every soldier has a unique set of amor usually built from the bones of their own family tree or at least re-worked family armor. A typical grunt’s armor looks like this for the most part. Petrified Darkness gems are carved from the Kurosian’s own darkness aura and set into their armor to help aide them in battle and enforce both their armor’s strength and the strength of their spells. Each Kurosian has a set of battle talons added to their own claws, and knives on their wings.

We had a handful of specialized squadrons, such as the Silverwings, which had armor of just bright Kuronium instead of the darkened like shown above.  The Silverwings had body types more fit for speed, therefor their armor often fit so closely on them they often appeared to have been painted on. We also had Titans, which were the more tank-built Kurosians that focused more on ground combat, and would often have crossbows or even guns attached to their shoulders.

*ahem* excuse me I’m rambling, but yes this is what our typical grunt soldiers looked like for the most part 😀

Lost Queen : Hard to say, sometimes they appear as mere spots of darkness, to wisps holding onto black bone like shadows. But the ones that attack… they appear as red mists with broken, skull like faces. Their eyes are empty, but the longer you stare, the more you see them. Stare too long, and they come for you. They’re silent for the most part, whispering from time to time, but if you can see their eyes, that is when they scream.

(( OOC : on that note, gnite everybody! 😀 Sleep tight! ))

So it seems that the Kuros were very tightly knit. I have a few questions about that. Since children were raised by the community as a whole, does that mean that the children didn’t know who their blood relatives were? If so, did that lead to any incest? I’m guessing that the Kuros were not free to mate with anyone that wasn’t Kurosian, does that mean they also weren’t allowed to leave the city? And did all of Kuroskind live in the city? Or were there other settlements?

Lost Queen : I can see how it’s confusing, but the children always knew who their parents were (my case is a bit different, but in general). The Kurosian custom was that the parents names are added to the child’s last name depending on the sex. Take for example my son, Havok. His last name is Kaoson, “Son of Kaos” (we stuck with the english translation, since his first name translates to “The Last Son”, otherwise his last name would have been “Kaosvok”. Sounds better in english).

Males tend to take the sire’s name while daughters take the dame’s. We keep intricate records of each family tree, and sometimes during celebrations we’ll make cloaks with the trees on them to show our community who our ancestors were. Society just had a greater hand in raising the young.

As for the city and other settlements, yes, there used to be hundreds of other cities and villages. Kurosia was simply where we all came from, where our Gods were born and lived. However, over eons of wars and betrayals all other settlements were eventually slain. Our greatest massacre was when the Arkeyans betrayed us and harvested us for our bones. Millions lost their lives and countless cities and settlements were eliminated. Over time, Kurosia was all that was left.

What exactly makes Kurosians evil? So far they just sound like a secretive society that minds their own business ._?

Lost Queen : We created the art of dark magic, and were very skilled in carrying them out and spreading Darkness across the verse. We demanded respect for it too, and for that we would declare war on others to show our strength. We simply were a wholesome, prideful people that cared for our own, but when it came to others were were heavily aggressive and quick to do battle with. Kurosians believed that good could not exist without us, the evil. And we prided ourselves in that, by making sure the verse knew that we were the true bringers of Darkness.

We’re there any same sex relationships amongst the kurosians? If so what were the common opinions on the mater and were their ever two queens or kings?

Lost Queen : Mhmm, same sex relationships happened all the time. Nobody thought twice about it, you see, our marriages or pairings aren’t for ‘love’ or even if you prefer a male or female. If you wanted to reproduce, which was important in our culture to have at least one clutch to help our population grow, you just fought for mate, had eggs, and bam done. The pairing isn’t forever, it’s just for the season.

The father usually left anyway to go about his way, so if the female had any lovers that were the same sex as her, they would help raise the children. Or even if a female or male didn’t want to reproduce, they find their places elsewhere in the city. Some dragons swing different ways, but that doesn’t matter as long as you loved your people and protected them.

He has in him a great deal of conflict, due to wanting to ensure the prosperity and unity of his people with all other Dragonkind, and occasionally has bouts of great anger that can wipe out entire armies.

Backstory

Asiirha was raised among royalty, side-by-side with the future king and his rookery mates. He is a rarity amongst the Shire, born with ‘Obsidian Kurosian Metal,’ a mark of a great and powerful Shadowmancer amongst their kind. Thus he is trained, and he is also feared. At an early age, he does not understand this, and lived the normal life of a child in Kurosia. It is not until he reaches the early days of his teenaged years that he began to grasp the gravity of his position, and how utterly he is feared and respected.

It is on the eve of this realization that he is betrothed. Unlike most of his kind, who would battle prospective mates to near-death, Asiirha’s birth is cause for special circumstances. He is intended to marry the future Matriarch of Fear, one of the rarest elements in all of Skylands, and he is whisked away for decades to be raised by her side.

Ruxandara was a bitter and quiet girl. She does not make any attempts at being his friend, or even trying to like him at all. Asiirha, to his part, attempted to make things easier for her. He was nothing but kind to her, and she is nothing but cruel, and nasty. When she wasn’t either of those she ignored him, so he turned instead to getting to know her people.

The Fear Dragons, or the ‘Aryos’ as they called themselves, were also a proud and strict people. But they relied on their powers rather than carving a path through the world via battle in order to gain respect from others, though their violence is close second in Dragon Society by the Kuros’. He never quite befriended any of them, but became a point of fascination for them, as their powers could not affect him. Some accredited it to his ‘Obsidian Bones,’ others to the fact that his intended was the future Matriarch.

While some in Kurosia would have relished their mix of fear and respect for him, their awe instead displeased him. He did not want to have their respect because of his power, or the lack of power they held over him. Instead, he wanted to earn it, and to befriend other dragons of like minds.

It is this train of thought that eventually leads him to ask his fiance to travel Skylands with him. She eventually agrees, longing to find a way out of her marriage somewhere beyond her people, and so they travel together. During their travels they meet another rare Elemental dragon: Atropine, leader of the Poison flock. He joined them on their trek, until they eventually came to Warfang.

The alliance between the Kuros and those of Warfang was tentative at best. But Asiirha’s demeanor and his two allies, dragons those in Warfang had never before witnessed, granted them entry. Over the years the three formed bonds within the city, gaining enough respect through deeds rather than birth. Eventually, they were asked to join The Guardians, as Overseers of their own Elements. Asiirha and his comrades accepted, and that was the beginning of the end.

Asiirha eventually betrayed Warfang to join Malefor, and was banished from their good graces. They were given shelter in Kurosia, but Asiirha found he could not enjoy his homecoming. Though he and Ruxandara were wed, his true heart remained in Warfang, held unbeknownst even to his love, in the talons of the Wind Guardian’s niece. Ruxandara used the powers she had accumulated over the years to seal him to her side, to curse him so that he could not do that which was not her will.

And so it was that he betrayed not only those in Warfang, but also his own kind.

Malefor and his Apes, as well as Ruxandara and Atropine’s peoples, attacked Kurosia, wiping out all of the Black Dragons. But Malefor turned on the Overseers in a final act of dominance, though once Ruxandara was murdered, and her hold on him broken, Asiirha fled to The King and Queen’s castle. It was there that he found The Queen in a destroyed nest, weeping over the loss of her children. He begged her to leave with the survivors, eventually dragging her away from the betrayal he could not bring himself to admit to.

During their escape, he fled, unable to face his shame and self-loathing, placing himself into self-exile. None yet know where he resides, though it is clear he punishes himself greatly….

Malefor and Asiirha

Truth be told, there was not much of a relationship between the undead dragon king and Asiirha. Even during those early days, Asiirha was under Ruxandara’s control, and all of his interactions with Malefor were at her whim. During the murder of the Puros and Aryos leaders, however, Asiirha managed to mortally wound Malefor, and it’s rumored that the Purple Dragon never walked the same way again.

The Lost Queen and Asiirha

A great deal of guilt surrounds Asiirha about The Lost Queen. Not only did he betray his own people, but he ultimately was the cause of the death of her unborn children. If he had resisted, even the slightest bit, one or more of his kin could have broken her spell….

And her whelps would have survived.

When she was first brought back to Kurosia, Asiirha was wone of those tasked with introducing her to their laws and moral code. Five decades older than her, he looked to her like he did any of the younger dragons, though she held a special place in his mind and heart from day one. For he understood what it was like to grow up being treated differently, and understood the anger she held in her heart from being treated thus.

He was witness to her Mating Fight with Kurogh, and there to help them both tend to their wounds after they were declared fit to be mates. Asiirha confessed to her, teasingly, if he had not been mated, he might have challenged her himself, and congratulates her on claiming a place as Kurogh’s Queen.

It is in him that she now and then confides her mistrust of Malefor, and he is unable to do anything but scoff at her suspicions, despite his own sinking feeling that Malefor will turn against them. Under Ruxandara’s control, he can do nothing but wave off her fears, and tell her she is ‘being silly,’ though she is doing anything but.

After he flees the punishment from her he knows he deserves, Asiirha watches her now and then through Shadow Scrying, and desperately loathes himself for how deeply he has wounded Kurosia’s Last Queen.

Asiirha has been around for a looong time now. Originally, he was either my idea for Malefor’s dad or Cynder’s. It wasn’t until weirdiehyenas (aka weirdlanders ) came up with her Kurosian Lore that he really got a lot of depth.

But it wasn’t until I gave him a Skylanders counterpart that his Legend of Spyro story was given even MORE depth and life.
