Welp, after seeing the gameplay for Superchargers….

Yep, I’m excited for it. I wasn’t hyped on the cars aspect at first but the racing looks REALLY fun and now that it’s online, I can challenge some of you peeps to kick your booties! >:D Only time will tell if I fully love this game or not, but now I’m way more excited for it than I was before~

OOC : No worries, he’s in his box for now. I do have this long-ass mini comic roughed out where he meets the family and introduces the whole plot idea I had for him but… Jesus, for some reason, he’s a BETCH to draw. I keep trying to go back to it from time to time, and eventually I’d love to finish his little plot addition, but fuuuh EVENTUALLY. I’ve held off even introducing another character I’ve re-designed from a comic I made nearly two years ago that never saw the light of day, JUST because I haven’t even finished up Reave’s thing. Playing around with the Rocoto/Tamale plot has been really fun, I enjoy them and decided to just go with the flow with them because if I held them off any longer than I had been, I feared I’d never post them at all.

IN TIME, I’d really like to finish up as much as I can before SuperChargers comes out, DAMN MY ART MUSE IT’S SO DAMN FICKLE.

|| Next Post ||

OOC: That I have! I did see it day of, and almost immediately started drawing out a reaction. I have been HELLA busy trying to catch up with commissions which did keep me from right away posting Superchargers related things, that and I felt like I should wait to get my thoughts out before all that. SO, my thoughts on Superchargers! I apologize for the huge wall of text, I’d figure I’d really get my thoughts out there, so prepare for a readin’ kiddies!

Disappointment, at least, at first. As some may remember before Trap Team’s release, there was a leak that Trap Team would be a racing game. Immediately there was backlash, I was one of those that did NOT want Skylanders to go the horrible route of BanjoKazooie Nuts’n’Bots, or Little Big Planet Racing or whatever it was called. I don’t know many people that enjoy racing games, and I’m one of them. Not a big fan. I can play mario cart and have fun, but that’s it.

Ever since Spitfire was first leaked, my friends and I had a feeling it was racing related (as Spitfire was on an engine). I kept hoping that maybe it wasn’t an engine, but nope, as it’s known now, it be an engine. So we all saw it coming, but hoped for the best that maybe, JUST maybe, like Trap Team we were being mislead.

I come from a pretty red-neck family, my father was a mechanic and he loved to watch car related shows, dirt bike races, or whatever was on VH1 (or other related channels). It’s safe to say I was the black sheep of the family, and found such things so uninteresting I’d rather go stare at a rock. The new trailer made me feel like I was watching those shows back home, listening to some dude I didn’t know a single thing about talk about dirt bikes, another thing I could care less about, and then Skylanders.

Honestly, the trailer left me feeling far, far more disappointed and disinterested. At least with Trap Team’s reveal, you got like a mini story! Horrible acting, but still interesting; kids finding ol’ skylanders in a dusty room and then BAM Skylanders, villains, arrrrg save the day! It was exciting and fun!

This… wasn’t. It was just like a commercial; no story, just…to quote JonTron, caaaaaaaaarrrrrrssssss. You ‘kinda’ got a feel of Spitfire’s personality, and for a vroom vroom commercial it was still pretty Skylanderized, but… it was like the Trap Team commercials you’d see AFTER the “Discovery” trailer.

Does that mean I hate Superchargers? HELL NO I don’t hate it. I just feel that the trailer, at least from my perspective, was completely underwhelming after Trap Team’s fun trailer. I have my personal baggage with dirt bikes and cars and crap like that after coming from a family that had such a hard time trying to understand why I’d much rather draw and be by myself. Don’t get me wrong I love my family, at least portions of it. Anyway, I feel no excitement whatsoever for ‘that’ type of demographic, but I realize that’s just ME.

And obviously, this game is not for me. Skylanders was NEVER for me, I just like it because I’m a kid at heart and I like taking a more adult twist on the characters and stories. The demographic for Skylanders is for 8-12 year old boys (yes, boys, not girls), and from that perspective, this game makes a butt-load of sense. Little boys love cars, and now there’s Skylanders WITH cars. While I’m not excited about cars, I’m far happier that this could make kids really happy. I do hope little girls aren’t deterred away, parents still heavily genderize toys so some girls might feel excluded, but as a kid… I did like cars. I liked putting my beanie babies in toy cars and making them drive around! No I didn’t play make-believe about what types of cars or car parts, but cars were still fun.

Also, after reading saffronaura‘s dA journal post about the game’s details, my disappointment started to elevate a bit. This isn’t just a racing game, but rather there are on-foot areas still, previous skylanders can still be usable, and amazingly you can still take advantage of the Traps!

Next, after seeing the different types of cars, there’s the possibility that there are different types of terrains to race with. My husband is far more into some racing games, and he really liked Sonic All-stars Racing Transformed, which he did get me to play with him a few times. The different terrains can make up for some unique and fun level designs. Combine that with some on foot levels, this makes things a little better for me.

And then, the headliners. All three of the gimmick Skylanders, I felt, looked AWESOME. Spitfire is badass, Stormblade is just as awesome, and…I’m just calling her Flaafy until proven otherwise (…okay let’s face it I’m naming her Flaafy), even she looks cool! The thing I loved about Skylanders the most was the toys, I’m a huge collector and I just love collecting things (yaaay first gen pokemon and beanie baby generation yo!). So the upcoming new Skylanders excites me the most, I just can’t wait to see more of them. And, the story. I don’t know how it’ll effect the blog, but it’s always exciting to think of the possibilities.

Grimaceingly excited. Yeah the car aspect is a huge buzzkill for me, I just really, REALLY don’t care about cars. But I think there’s still a LOT of great possibility to come from this game; after all, Vicarious Visions is doing this one and my favorite Skylanders game is still Swap Force, so I’m still hopefully Vicarious can make this still an enjoyable game. I don’t have to buy the cars as the game already comes with one, so I can just have that one, or one type of each car to experience the different levels.

In the end, I’m not giving this game a verdict. Not like, a FINAL one yet. I mean it was just released! I CAN’T bash this game yet. In the beginning, I HATED Skylanders; I was one of the worst haters and drew hate-art when it was announced. After some coaxing from my friends, as well as some growing up I did of my own, I decided I had to experience the game in order to have the grounds to dislike it. And wouldn’t you know, while I didn’t care much for the first two games, I discovered I liked Skylanders, and BAM here I am today. I’ve learned to do that with a lot of things, don’t judge something harshly until you’ve experienced it. So, I’m not going to whine and baw over Superchargers until it comes out, and I play the game. And I know my personal tastes shouldn’t be pushed onto others.

I apologize for the long as tits explanation, but this has been something I’ve discussed with friends and things I’ve been going over mentally ever since the leaks began. In the end, just keep in mind this game is for kids, not teenagers or adults; KIDS. That doesn’t make it a bad game, it’s not even out yet. Don’t baw at people that can be excited about this game because hay, don’t be a dick, let people enjoy things! Nobody likes the fun police. I’m staying fairly excited for the possibility this game and look forward to trying it out. Clearly, the people making the game (not the guys in suits in it for the money, or Activision), are having fun and putting their all in it, and I can’t wait to see what these people that genuinely care can come up with! Plus I agree with anon #2, I’m mostly in it to collect Skylanders, so I hope for some more badass dragons! I try to get all the dragons too lmfao x,D

…………………that, and my husband got me to see Mad Max, and holy shit, I fucking love that movie. Then just a few days later, Superchargers was confirmed. I like to imagine a mix of that movie and Skylanders…and that’s what I did for the family’s reply. MUWAHAHAHAA!

when you make OCs, and later find out they look kinda like characters from an existing series

When you write/think their stories and  later find out they are very similar like characters from an existing series.

When your OCs have been established for years but characters from recent popular shows look very similar to them

yes…

It’s discouraging, yes, but still, please don’t feel like you need to scrap your ideas and OCs.

Because, uh… I forget who said it, and the exact quite, but it was something like… “you have your own unique vision and way of telling the story that only you can tell.”

(… I think it was Neil Gaiman, but I could be wrong.)

OOC : Oh god this has happened to me so many times, I do use inspirations which I happily reference, but I think the best example of this happening to me was with Cherry Bomb.

I adore geisha so much, my favorite book of all time is an autobiography called “Geisha : A Life” (who Cherry Bomb’s last name is a reference to). I spent almost all of my college education learning as much as I could about Japanese art & culture, even going as far as attempting to learn japanese (and failing horribly). After seeing some tumblr posts about maple moths, I combined the two into Cherry Bomb.

Sadly, soon after making her I discovered an AMAZING, mind-blowing artist by the name of White-Mantis who had a mantis geisha character with a very similar appearance. Of course the second I found out, while blown away by this artists’ style, I was incredibly crushed and discouraged to ever draw Cherry again (which is why she hasn’t appeared on the blog for a while). While it was completely innocent and not done on purpose, I couldn’t and still can’t bring myself to draw her after finding White-Mantis.

So I feel dis post. So many feels ;3;

Also the last gif is pretty much like Headshot and Knightmare x,D

lemminglavacake has been a dear close friend of mine for years now. She’s a beautiful, crazy talented, incredibly kind chica that I’ve adored since the day she was kind enough to speak to me. She recently came under some anon hate that she did not by any means deserve.

The anon called me and a bunch of our other friends out claiming that we weren’t true friends. Obliviously, they were beyond wrong. Lemming is one of the few I consider close, she my bab, and I love her pretty pretty face. So many people try to be my friend for free art, or to use me in some way without really caring about me as a person. Lemming is not like that at all. She’s been herself, been so damn kind, and I love her so much for it.

I hope this puts a smile on that cutiepie face of yours Lemming, and don’t let that sad excuse of a turd put you down. You’re an incredible, talented, thoughtful person and I’m so happy you are my friend. ILU hon, keep on smiling or I will never stop licking yo face ❤

OOC : Sorry for taking so long to actually reply about this, I was honestly so damn excited and happy I didn’t know what to say xD

I love it so freaking much, SO freakn’ much. I pictured Malefor being this size even in Skylanders, keeping a similar if not freakier looking version of his LoS counterpart. I wasn’t expecting the armor, but I’m totally digging it. It makes me all the more excited to read these comics! I have “The Kaos Trap” hardcover that I just recently read, but I haven’t gotten ahold of any of the other comics. I used to really be into reading comics, such as the Sonic the Hedgehog ones and tons of Deadpool and Batman. So far, I REALLY like the comics, and the Malefor story only makes me even more excited!!! Fico Ossio is a phenomenal artist (and really freakn nice from the times he’s replied to my comments on his dA page) and I had full faith that he’d draw Malefor with justice, and hooooly shit was I right. I don’t know if he was the one who designed him, but DAMN JUST, JUST LOOK AT THAT FUUUUUUUUUUUH

Long story short : I LOVE IT TO DEATH! Perfect size, badass freaky design. Once I free up more time I’m totally going to draw some fanart because damn, that face

OOC : So, a while ago I wanted to do a comic for the events of Trap Team, Weirdlanderized of course. A LOT goes down, and it would make more sense for me to just do it all as a comic, but lawd I do not have a good record for doing lengthy comics. I still hold out hope that maybe I could do it, but I’ve also wanted to do a billion other comics for this blog (I have a storyboard for the prologue of Headshot’s origin story done that might never come to light, same with the Awakened comic I was doing a year ago for the Lost Queen’s origin).

BUT whilst I was starting to flesh out the idea of the comic, I went ahead and made a logo for it. There’s a doodled comic over too that I never got around to finishing, but hey if the comic does become a thing, even roughed, I’ll post it.

I might use this logo for posts that are directly related to the Trap Team events. Really liked how it turned out!

OOC : OOOOOH LAWDY I have so many OuO

Thomas Bergersen is probably the most inspirational when it comes to Kurosia. There’s a few of his songs I’d REALLY like to make animatics for, like this one I’d like to animate the Lost Queen returning to her city after the Skylanders deny her only to find it all aflame, or this one, I imagine Feuriah’s first flight into Kurosia. Thomas is also apart of Two Steps from Hell, a lot of his music is on this channel so totally check them out!

Aaaaaand change of pace, but Delain, my favorite band, is very inspirational to me too. Not only do I picture Charlotte Wessels, the lead singer, as the voice for adult Hysteria, but it’s because of her I gave Hiss vultures as her minions thanks to her song, “Here Comes The Vultures”I honestly love all their CDs, but We Are The Others is my favorite CD thusfar. My favorite songs from them that I will play if I’m in an art block is We Are The Others (single), The Gathering, We Are The Others (ballad), Sing To Me, and Mother Machine

Xandria has a couple of songs I like to listen to for inspiration too, like Nightfall and Dreamkeeper

As songs go, of course Light ‘Em Up is a total Havok/Viril destroying shit song, same with Savant’s No Sleep. Savant himself is a huge inspiration too, so far he’s the best fit for Havok’s singing voice. Like Make Up Your Mind

I could go on forever BUT THOSE ARE THE BIGGEST ONES. So much, oh so much

PS – Really good Radioactive/Light Em Up mix
