“gremlin spyro” jokes died years ago and if you still use them while actually finally getting what you want, you are an infant who cant handle change. finding joy in harassing people and poking fun at a character beloved by many (especially children) is not something to be proud of. cringe culture is dead.
MOD: I will readily admit that I was one of the ones who did not like Spyro’s design change for Skylanders and it took me A WHILE to actually like the franchise entirely. It just didn’t feel like a ‘Spyro game’ to me at the time.
But here’s the great thing about Spyro’s design and the games he’s been in. Spyro games follow a super simple formula for games: free roam platform exploration+adventure and you’re a purple dragon.
Spyro games have always been such a good and enjoyable experience, and regardless of whether or not you like the design change, with each generation this stuff will change. Yes it’s awesome to have classic Spyro back, but let’s not forget that Skylanders meant something to a new generation and helped bring a new wave of fans who will continue to contribute to the fandom in new and positive ways.
And for the record, I love Spyro’s designs. ALL of them. He’s all of our purple son, and we can’t pick favorites with our kids. ❤
Same.
I hated on Skylanders so freakn hard in the beginning. I was one of the first to actually draw hate art and gave permission for people to repost and spread it so Activision could see. I was awful, though I don’t recall ever personally attacking people for liking it. Still, I was venomous.
And I still kick myself so hard for it. I was so horribly immature, so childish, for all that. I got to know some of the fans, and gave in to try the game. Afterall, how could I truly hate a game without trying it? After trying it, I fell in love with Skylanders. The games were relaxing and fun, and something both my husband and I could play together and be idoits. Skylanders has faults, Activision is faaaaaar from a saint, but Skylanders truly does not deserve even the sliver of the amount of hate it gets.

Couldn’t have said it better. It’s very awesome to have the classic boy back, but all Spyros are good Spyros. Every Spyro means something to someone, and Skylanders introduced new players into our fandom.
Let’s all celebrate, and not spread hate. Don’t spoil the fun for everyone. Let’s all come together as SPYRO fans and enjoy the games that started it all, in a new light.
