Yoldahr live within the peaks of Kurosia, among their own living barbaric lives. They have long sworn off communications with their mother species and gods. However they knew attacking random Kuros would warrent giant hunts, and Yoldahr live in small groups. Yoldahr only attack Kuros when they feel threatened, and most Kuros tend to avoid the battles with them.

Some Kuros will hunt them to prove themselves. Yoldahr aren’t considered Kuros since they had long sworn off protecting the balance and their Gods, they are well known for killing their own, so there’s no real punishment for attacking Yoldahr beyond it being dangerous and possibly troublesome if the Yoldahr clan lives near trading routes. Yoldahr venom can be injected and used as a breath, which can melt even Kuros scales.

Lost Queen, have there ever been any cases of Yoldahr wyverns acting civil enough to breed with a Kuros dragon of either gender from both parents? And what was usually the fate of the offspring?

Lost Queen : Not that I know of, they’ve acted pretty aggressive towards us. They don’t try to kill us, but they’re not friendly. They’re stubborn, smart beasts that prefer to live their own primitive ways. I’ve only heard made up stories about those kinds of hybrids, nothing’s ever been proven to my knowledge.

Subspecies – As Kuros are one of the most ancient species of dragon known to Skylands, there are countless subspecies that have evolved from them.

  • Yoldahr ( Pronounced “Yol-dare”) are a wyvern subspecies. Known to have had clans deep within the Kurosian mountains. This subspecies tend to have more of a snake-like appearances with retractable poisonous fangs. The markings along the Yoldahr’s body have an engraved appearance to them, accompanied by spiral patterns on their wings. The Yoldahr are reclusive in nature, and highly aggressive. They weren’t known to commune with the Kuros villages and cities, but rather kept to themselves among the mountains hunting Uka and other unfortunate prey. They were said to be able to speak, but were very primal and savage than their Kurosian forefathers. And, unlike the near extinct Kuros, there are still plenty hidden among the mountains. There are many different species of the Yoldahr, but all resemble snakes (species shown above are known as Kull’Yoldahr, viper like wyverns). The only part of the Yoldahr that has Kuronium are their fangs, though their skeletal systems are stronger than typical dragon bones.

Societal structure –

Yoldahr mostly make chattering, screeching noises rather than speak a language. They are clan oriented, but clans usually only consist of 5-10 Yoldahr, lead by a single alpha. The alpha is often the largest and strongest out of the rest, and is the most aggressive. The clans as a collective are highly reclusive, and stick to dark, damp reaches of the mountains to reside. They hunt the beasts that roam the mountains, targeting Uka and other predators in favor. They are not known to hunt Kuros, but will show territorial displays, which often does include attacking as warnings. The alpha is often the only one of the clan allowed to breed, they choose their mates by a variate of different ways. Some have mating dances, others judge by size, color, strength, and in some cases even screams.

Abilities

– Yoldahr are poison elementals. They are able to shoot poisonous projectiles, bite to inject venom, have poisonous barbs on their tails, etc. Although they are clan structured and rarely speak, Yoldahr are highly intelligent dragons.

Sizes

– While they are a wyvern subspecies, Yoldahr are actually larger than most elemental dragons. Sizes depend on species of Yoldahr.

Lifespans –

These wyvern dragons can live to up to 500-600 years, but as is typical of the Kurosian species as a whole, they don’t usually live too long. Due to the harshness of the environment and their social structure, Yoldahr are lucky to make it to 50.

Now this was a fun species to bring to life! A long, loooong time ago, I received a few asks about possible branching species of Kuros that were like wyverns and whatnot. This lead to me updating the Kuros page on Weirdlanders to add in subspecies, including these guys. But, just never drew them out. I tried a few times, but didn’t quiet like how they were working out.

But, I recently got a new ask wanting me to delve into the Yoldahr! After finishing the mini commissions, I felt like a doodle of one would be fun! And… well… I ended up drawing a reference sheet x,D Though, this is just one kind of Yoldahr, one based off of the badass bush viper! I have ideas about their actual lore, but nothing’s really finished up yet.
